(April 19, 2012)  Your Morning Church team had the privilege to be a part of THE biggest night in Christian/Gospel music, the 43rd Annual GMA Dove Awards!  The Awards were taped at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA on April 19 and we were on the red carpet ready to bring you all the latest!

The awards were hosted by comedian Chonda Pierce and singer/actor David Mann (known mostly for his work in Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Brown’s” sitcom and stage-play).  Their comedic chemistry provided for big laughs during the commercial breaks and interludes during taping.

R&B soul singer Angie Stone, along with gospel singers Yolanda Adams, Crystal Lewis and Karen Peck, opened up the show with a choir dressed of red, singing a spirited rendition of Dottie Rambo’s song I Go To the Rock.  The foursome’s performance was a tribute to Whitney Houston, who died Feb. 11.  Houston also sang the song in the 1996 movie, The Preacher’s Wife.

The night included performances by Mary Mary, Natalie Grant, Jason Crabb, Jamie Grace, and The Isaacs (my NEW favorite) just to name a few!  Lecrae also performed and was honored with the award of Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year AND Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year.  Natalie Grant’s performance of her hit song “Alive” earned her a standing ovation for the night.  Such a moving performance, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.  Natalie Grant also won Female Vocalist of the Year, her fifth time winning this award.  Jason Crabb won two of the most prestigious awards of the night; Artist of the Year AND Male Vocalist of the year!
