RECAP: The Evolution of Negro Spirituals at PCCM

The Philadelphia Christian Church & Ministries in east Baltimore, MD had a concert performance featuring lyric-dramatic baritone, Thomas Beard on Sunday, February 26th. The concert featured selections to tell the story of the Evolution of the Negro Spiritual, starting with Songs of Slavery (like “Watch and Pray”), Songs of Hope (like (He’s Got the Whole World in his Hands”) and culminating in Songs of Journey and Freedom (like “Don’t Feel No Ways Tired”). It was a wonderful afternoon to showcase a style of singing not often celebrated in the the modern church atmosphere!

The concert’s intermission featured guest artists, the Winslow Dynasty, of Los Angeles California, with a mix of instrumenatl trumpet and soprano stylings to take the evening to the top!  Minister Joseph Taylor and the Anointed Voices of Praise MAss Choir also gave the crowd a taste of the Philadelphia Christian Church and Ministries March 17th concert, at which they will be the featured performers.
